Australia's biggest pop star of the sixties, Normie Rowe was the first Melbourne recording artist to achieve a national Australian No.1.
His first single was a version of the Porgie and Bess stage musical song It Ain't Necessarily So, and became a top ten hit. Norma and his group, The Playboys, quickly became the stars of Sunshine Records, touring across Australia. Normie later toured across Canada and America before returning home, where he was drafted and served in Vietnam.
In 2005, Normie was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame, and was also recognised by the Australian War Memorial as a National Hero.
He released a book in 2013 with New Holand, documenting the highs and lows of his career, and his personal struggles.
