In Your Dreams
Susie sat glumly at the kitchen table, trying to do her homework. It had been half an hour since she'd written: What I Want to be When I Grow Up by Susie Martin.
'Can I help?' her mum asked.
Susie shook her head. 'No one can,' she sighed.
'The trouble is, I just don't know what I want to be when I grow up.'
In Your Dreams follows young Susie, who is supposed to write about what she wants to be when she grows up. The only problem is, she has no idea what she wants to be! With her Gran's help, Susie embarks on a mission to interpret a series of puzzling dreams, in order to understand the answer to her question.
This story shows how important it is to follow your dreams, and is written by acclaimed author Sally Morgan, with beautiful illustrations by award-winning illustrator, Bronwyn Bancroft.
Told poignantly by Ellen van Neerven, a writer of Mununjali Yugambeh and Dutch heritage, In Your Dreams is the first story in our First Nations' Stories series. Ellen was chosen specifically as storyteller for In Your Dreams because of her own experiences growing up. Ellen told us that she found school hard in the first few years and felt 'in her shell', but that a teacher showed her Sally Morgan's book, My Place, which inspired her to write about her own place and become the author she is today.
