Feathers

The sandpiper stretched its wings in the chilling breeze. It knew it was time to leave...so it took flight.
The boy spied a falling feather... spinning and drifting. He climbed to the top of a craggy mountain and caught it. It was soft and smooth on his grimy cheek.

Feathers is a stunning story that on the surface follows a sandpipers yearly migratory flight, yet contains a deeper and thought-provoking observation of the hardship faced by people in different lands around the globe, due to the destruction caused by earthquakes, civil unrest and flooding. Each feather shed by the bird causes a moment of peace and briefly distracts the children who receive them from their harsh situation.

As the sandpiper nears the end of its journey, a feather is shed near Mia's house, which is calm and quiet, and a deliberate reminder to all who live in peace and safety how lucky we are.

Author Phil Cummings uses simple yet powerful text in this deeply poignant story that is illustrated so exquisitely by Phil Lesnie.

Beautifully told by actor, writer, spoken word artist, and stand up comedian Osamah Sami, Feathers is an important story to share and encourages a different way of looking at the world.
