There's Phineas, who plays flowers as musical instruments, discovering melodies in morning dewdrops and night blossoms. Grok performs on the celebratory Fahloodle Tongue-Flute, an instrument from the Lagoon Isles where even successfully relocating sea cucumbers is considered worthy of a festival.

Music lovers will also meet Ember, a member of the fiery jazz group Brass Inferno who dreams of one day performing atop Mount Vesuvius, and Brunhilda, a master of the highly specialised art of "humming-whilst-reading" who can somehow navigate lengthy novels and classic songs simultaneously.

Young readers are sure to fall in love with Taco, a tiny mouse whose new drum has transformed him into a one-mouse percussion section, while Bearnard, a former picnic basket thief turned classical cellist, now tours the forests with his operatic companion Figaro the warbler.

Elsewhere in Briony's orchestra, butterflies toot bugles, royal frogs sing melancholy ballads, scavenging creatures discover unexpected joy through tambourines, and Winston, an accordion-playing rabbit, performs record-breaking cartwheels while playing polkas.
